Chuen-Fung Wong studies the music of the Uyghur people (Turkic-speaking Central Asian Muslims) in China¡¦s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. His publications address issues ranging from musical modernity and minority nationalism to cultural revival and musical exoticism. He is editor and co-author of Listening to Chinese Music (2009) and maintains active scholarly and performing interests in traditional Chinese music.

Chuen-Fung teaches courses in ethnomusicology, world music, Chinese music, race and ethnicity, Uyghur/Central Asian music, among other topics. He is recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship in 2009 and the Rulan Chao Pian Prize for the best Chinese music publication in 2013. He currently serves as president of the Association for Chinese Music Research (2014-2017). Chuen-Fung received his PhD in ethnomusicology from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2006 and was previously chair of Music Department at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.
