29 January 2015

Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra is going to perform Ma Man-ki’s suona concerto Another Way (2014) in their Music from the Heart concert this Saturday.

Another Way (2014) is a one-movement suona concerto, showcasing suona’s signature bent note technique and flowerily ornamented quick running passages, as well as introducing some challenging skills of suona playing. Ma graduated from HKBU with first class honours in composition / music last year. He has performed in the United States, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan with many HK orchestras, including the Hong Kong Chamber Wind Philharmonia, Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra, Collegium Musicum Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra. Ma is currently a resident artist with the Hong Kong Chamber Wind Philharmonia and Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra.

Music from the Heart is a concert series since 1999, aiming to keep the forward momentum of Chinese music. It emphasizes talents in the city via setting the stage for local composers. The concert will be held at HKCO Recital Hall in Sheung Wan Civic Centre on this coming Saturday 31st January at 8:00pm.
