Inaugural NC Wong Young Composers Award
In 2020, HKBU received a donation from Mr. Wong Nga Chung, President of Nakagawa Electronics Ltd. With the generous support of Mr. Wong, the Department of Music will be launching the Inaugural NC Wong Young Composers Award in 2021, which aims to nurture creativity for music students at HKBU.s endeavours, including the V-Care Campaign, the HKBU Century Club Fund, the establishment of scholarships and bursaries, as well as service-learning activities and institutional advancement. He is also Honorary Permanent President and Member of the Alumni Committee of the HKBU Foundation. Beyond his contributions to the University, Mr. Wong has remained committed to promoting education in Hong Kong and Mainland China. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the University and society at large, HKBU conferred an Honorary University Fellowship on Mr. Wong in 2014.

About The Award



Three finalists will be selected from the competition entries:

1st Prize Monetary Prize HKD 25,000, Award Diploma and Performance at Award Presentation Press Reception

2nd Prize Monetary Prize HKD 15,000 and Award Diploma

3rd Prize Monetary Prize HKD 10,000 and Award Diploma

*In addition to the money prize, The winning work (1st Prize) will also receive a performance with the Quatour Arod in Autumn 2022.

The NC Wong Young Composers Award will be organized biennially as a competition open to all students who are currently enrolled in the following programmes:
  • Associate Degree in Music Studies
  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Music Studies
  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Music
  • Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Creative Industries
  • Master of Arts in Music
  • PhD

    No specific theme. Each Applicant may submit only ONE piece.

    Instrumentation: String Quartet

    Duration: 6 V 8 minutes



    • Submission of application forms, music scores and programme notes must be made electronically. Please click HERE for online submission.

    • The programme note should be bilingual, approximately 250 words in English and 100 words in Chinese, and must be submitted alongside the composition.

    • The composer’s name, student ID, and the programme currently enrolled must be clearly shown on the score.

    • No late submission is allowed.
